Job Title: Reception SEND Teacher
Reception SEND Teacher – Special School – Havering (January Start)
£160–£220/day (depending on experience) | Primary/EYFS | Havering | January Start | Full-Time | Long-Term
Axcis are delighted to be supporting a highly regarded special school in Havering who are seeking a Reception SEND Teacher to join their nurturing Early Years team from January. The school supports pupils aged 2–19 with a range of complex learning, communication, sensory and physical needs, and is consistently praised for its caring ethos, respectful culture and commitment to personalised learning. Their most recent Ofsted report rated them “Good” across all areas, highlighting strong teaching, effective leadership and excellent pastoral care.
The Reception environment includes sensory rooms, adapted outdoor learning spaces and a therapy-informed approach. Staff describe the setting as collaborative, positive and deeply child-centred — a place where pupils’ small steps forward are recognised, valued and celebrated.
In this role, you will be:
• Leading a small Reception class of pupils with communication needs, developmental delays, autism profiles and sensory processing differences.
• Planning and delivering a highly differentiated EYFS curriculum, with a balance of sensory exploration, communication targets, structured play and early academic learning.
• Using tools such as visual supports, PECS and Makaton (desirable) to enhance understanding and expression.
• Working closely with SALT, OT, Physio, support staff and families to implement personalised learning plans.
• Creating a calm, predictable and engaging environment that builds confidence, emotional regulation and independence.
• Modelling strong inclusive practice and contributing to behaviour and support plans.
What we’re looking for:
• QTS/QTLS or a strong ECT with SEND experience.
• Previous work in a special school or with children with complex SEND is highly desirable.
• Excellent understanding of early years development, communication needs and sensory-based teaching approaches.
• A reflective, patient and nurturing practitioner with strong collaboration skills.
• Someone committed to holistic, child-centred education.
