JOB TITLE / ROLE:
Teaching Assistant - Cheltenham - Immediate start - Gloucestershire - Role: SEND TA Jobs
Axcis have a vacancy for a teaching assistant at a well respected primary pupil referral unit in Cheltenham working with children aged 5-11 years old. Primary PRU's are very rare and this is the opportunity to work in a one of a kind setting. The pupils all have SEMH needs and EHCP plans; many exhibit challenging behaviours. Many of the children have been through a series of interventions in mainstream schools and have been failed many times by educational settings.
We're ideally looking for applicants who have experience working with children who've experienced trauma and abuse and children with attachment disorders. Many of the children have had very difficult home lives and need a positive role model; someone calm and trustworthy whom the pupils can build rapport with quickly. Pupils are only at the school for twelve weeks before their final review and move to a more permanent setting. The school is very small with only 50 pupils maximum and six classes in all with most of the students receiving 1-1 support. The school has parking for staff and is easily accessible by public modes of transport.
The school uses alternative teaching methods such as Thrive, play therapy, art therapy and has sensory rooms. Rated as a centre of excellence by IQM, this fantastic pupil referral unit uses a range of innovative teaching methods to help their students make the most of their educational experience. The pupil referral unit has extensive grounds and the children are encouraged to do activities such as horse riding, swimming and gardening.
The school come to us for on the day supply and full time long term roles and the hours are really nice 8:30-3:30pm. The position is general in-class support - you must have a calm demeanour and resilient nature. Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour is essential and we would love to hear from you if you have Team Teach training.
If you are a caring, friendly and patient individual then this could be just the kind of role you're looking for. The ideal candidate will be an experienced SEND teaching assistant trained in Team Teach and who has worked with KS1 AND KS2 children with challenging behaviour. At Axcis, we value our teachers and support staff and the hard work they put in on a daily basis. This is why we always offer competitive rates of pay to ensure that their skills and experience are recognized.
