Job Title: ASD Teaching Assistant
We are looking for an enthusiastic, engaging and nurturing Teaching Assistant to provide individual support for a Year 4 pupil with ASD at a large primary school in Bracknell. This is a lovely opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children thrive in the classroom and who can build a positive, trusting relationship with a pupil while supporting them to get the most out of their learning.
The pupil is not considered highly challenging but will benefit from dedicated support to help them remain focused, engaged and motivated throughout lessons. The successful candidate will be someone who can bring energy and creativity into the classroom, helping to make learning interesting and accessible while encouraging the pupil to participate and complete activities. You will need to be able to adapt your approach, recognise when the pupil is losing focus and use positive strategies to re-engage them.
A key part of the role will be using a reward-based approach to encourage positive engagement and celebrate progress. You should be confident using rewards and encouragement effectively, while helping the pupil develop their independence, confidence and ability to engage with classroom learning. A patient, positive and encouraging approach is essential, as is the ability to work closely with the class teacher and wider school team.
Experience supporting children with ASD or additional needs would be highly desirable, although the most important qualities are your ability to engage with children, build strong relationships and make learning enjoyable. You should be creative, enthusiastic and able to think on your feet, with a genuine desire to help the pupil feel successful and included within the classroom.
The role is Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, and would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with relevant experience supporting children with ASD who is looking for a rewarding individual support role within a supportive primary school environment.
