These children can be physically challenging as they often struggle to regulate or express their emotions. What you’ll be doing: Providing consistent 1:1 support to pupils who may exhibit high anxiety or physical expressions of distress Helping children to develop emotional regulation skills using calm, patient engagement Building trusting, respectful relationships so pupils feel understood and safe Working alongside a dedicated specialist teaching team to tailor therapeutic, structured approaches in lessons and throughout the school day Who we're looking for: We’re not focused on formal experience. Instead, we want someone with the right personality—compassion, emotional resilience, calm under pressure, and a genuine desire to support children with autism whose behavioural challenges stem from communication difficulty. If you’ve volunteered, coached, worked with vulnerable or distressed children—even without autism-specific training—you may be exactly the right person. Why this role matters: The school’s latest Ofsted inspection (July?2023) graded Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development as Good, noting that pupils receive strong emotional and behavioural support, though overall effectiveness remains rated Requires Improvement in some areas The resource base for pupils with autism is a formally accredited specialist setting offering structured methodologies like PECS, Attention Autism and Makaton support Why you’ll enjoy working here: A structured daytime-only schedule—no evenings or weekends Be part of specialist practice where emotional insight and consistency truly change lives A chance to grow professionally in autism support and behaviour management If you’re someone who brings calm, compassion, firmness and real emotional intelligence—and wants to build meaningful experience supporting vulnerable children—apply today.
