A welcoming primary school in Bridgwater is seeking a calm, consistent, and emotionally resilient Behaviour Mentor to support Key Stage 1 pupils with behavioural and emotional needs. You’ll be working as part of a support team, offering tailored, structured guidance to help these children succeed both in and out of the classroom.
This is a challenging but hugely rewarding role — ideal for someone with strong experience in behaviour support, SEN, or trauma-informed care.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Supporting KS1 pupils on a 1:1 basis throughout the school day
• Helping the children manage emotions, routines, and transitions
• Using consistency, praise, and positive strategies to build trust and engagement
• Encouraging safe social interaction and meaningful participation in learning
• Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement behaviour plans
• Keeping detailed notes on progress, concerns, and strategies used
• Being a steady, supportive presence during breaktimes, lessons, and any difficult moments
What Makes You a Great Fit
• Confident supporting children with challenging behaviour, either in school or care settings
• Calm, emotionally grounded, and able to de-escalate when needed
• Reliable, patient, and consistent – able to stick to structure and routines
• Strong communication skills and a nurturing, non-judgemental approach
• Experience with trauma, emotional regulation, or behaviour management strategies is a real plus
• Open to training such as Team Teach, safeguarding, or SEMH development
