Job Title: Behavioural Specialist – Teaching Assistant
Axcis Education in Exeter are seeking a full-time, long-term Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and trauma, starting after the half-term break. Position: Social Emotional Teaching Assistant Location: Exeter Start Date: January 2025 Contract: Full-time, long-term (Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 3:30) Axcis are looking for a compassionate and resilient individual to work closely with students who face significant challenges, including SEMH issues and trauma-related difficulties. You will play a critical role in helping them navigate these challenges and achieve success, both academically and personally. Key Responsibilities: • Supporting students with SEMH needs and trauma, helping them to manage their emotions and behaviour • Assisting the class teacher in creating a safe and structured learning environment • Providing 1:1 or small group support to students with challenging behaviour • Working closely with the pastoral team to implement strategies that support emotional well-being and progress • Contributing to a trauma-informed approach to teaching and student care • Building strong, trusting relationships with students to help them feel safe and understood Requirements: • Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs, trauma, or challenging behaviour • Patience, empathy, and resilience when dealing with difficult situations • Strong communication and teamwork skills • Relevant qualifications in education or child development are highly desirable • A passion for helping vulnerable children reach their potential This role provides an opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact on children’s lives in a school that understands and supports the needs of its students.
