Role Summary
As a Child Support Worker (Teaching Assistant) you will:
Provide high quality, flexible support to pupils with complex learning needs, including speech, language and communication difficulties.
Work one-to-one or in small groups to support learning, engagement and emotional well-being.
Assist in delivering personalised learning pathways and life-skills activities, under the direction of the class teacher and SEND team.
Contribute to creating a safe, positive, nurturing environment where pupils feel valued, known as individuals and supported to build confidence, resilience and independence.
Monitor and support the emotional and social development of pupils; help with communication, routine, and be responsive to individual needs.
Liaise with staff, parents/carers and other professionals as required, to ensure consistency, safeguarding and the best outcomes for pupils.
Be flexible: adapting to changing needs, supporting across key stages (KS2-KS4) and being part of a team committed to achieving for each young person.
What We’re Looking For
You will:
Have experience, or a strong commitment to working, with children/young people with special educational needs (SEN), complex needs, or speech, language and communication needs.
Be patient, flexible, emotionally aware and able to adapt day-to-day to how a pupil is feeling or engaging.
Be able to read non-verbal cues, adjust your approach, and build supportive relationships with young people.
Be positive, punctual, polite and prepared—ready to make a good first impression and leave schools wanting you back.
Be a team-player, able to work under direction but also take initiative when required.
Be committed to supporting pupils to become independent, resilient and confident individuals—as the school’s ethos expects.
