Job Title: EYFS & Yr2 TA
Teaching Assistant – SEMH (Primary)
Location: M33
Start: ASAP | Contract: Full-time, Long-term
A supportive primary school in the M33 area is seeking a proactive and nurturing Teaching Assistant to support a child with SEMH needs across the school day.
This is a varied role, ideal for someone who is calm, flexible, and confident in adapting their approach to meet a child’s emotional and developmental needs.
Morning Role – EYFS
• Supporting within an EYFS setting during the first half of the day
• Encouraging learning through play, routine, and structure
• Promoting emotional regulation and positive interactions
• Using a nurture-based approach to help the child feel safe and settled
Afternoon Role – Year 2 (1:1)
• Providing 1:1 support in a Year 2 classroom
• Supporting engagement with learning and transitions
• Implementing de-escalation strategies during moments of dysregulation
• Working closely with the class teacher and SEN staff
The child can present with aggressive behaviours, so confidence and experience supporting SEMH is essential.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
• Have experience supporting children with SEMH or challenging behaviour
• Be proactive, resilient, and nurturing
• Be confident using de-escalation techniques
• Adapt well between EYFS and KS1 environments
• Build strong, consistent relationships with children
