Full-Time Learning Mentor – Alternative Provision (Plymouth) Salary: £89–£95 per day Location: Plymouth Age Group: 11–16 years Start Date: September 2025 Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only Driving Requirement: Must be a driver with access to own vehicle (mileage reimbursed) Are you a resilient, compassionate, and proactive individual looking to make a real difference in young people’s lives? We are seeking a Learning Mentor to join a dedicated alternative provision setting in Plymouth, supporting students aged 11–16 who have experienced trauma and present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils also display challenging behaviour, and we’re looking for someone who can remain calm, consistent, and supportive, even on the toughest days. About the Role: Build trusting relationships with pupils to help them re-engage with learning and the community. Support academic progress as well as social, emotional, and behavioural development. Accompany and supervise pupils on community outings – you must be a driver with your own car. Work closely with teaching staff, safeguarding leads, and external agencies. Promote positive behaviour strategies and a nurturing, trauma-informed approach. ? You Will Need: Strong resilience and emotional intelligence Experience working with children/young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle A calm, consistent and empathetic approach to behaviour management Desirable: Previous experience in an alternative provision, PRU, or specialist setting Training in Team Teach or other de-escalation strategies Understanding of trauma-informed practice This is a rewarding and varied role where no two days are the same.
