Learning Mentor (Level 2 / Grade 5) Location: Manchester M21 Setting: Secondary PRU Start: Immediate / January Contract: Full-Time Daily Rate: £90 – £100 per day About the Role We are recruiting a Level 2 Learning Mentor to join our PRU in Manchester (M21). The ideal candidate will have experience supporting behaviour, SEND needs, or pastoral interventions. PRU experience is beneficial but not essential, strong behaviour-support skills and emotional intelligence are key. Key Responsibilities • Deliver targeted interventions (behaviour, social skills, confidence building) • Work closely with teaching and pastoral teams • Support pupils with emotional dysregulation and trauma-informed approaches • Provide 1:1 mentoring and reintegration support • Assist with monitoring pupil progress and behaviour plans We’re Looking For • Strong behaviour management skills • Ability to de-escalate challenging situations • Experience delivering interventions or structured support • Great communication and relationship-building skills • Resilience, patience, consistency What We Offer • Ongoing CPD and behaviour training • Supportive, experienced staff team • A role where no two days are the same and impact is immediate ? What Is a Day Like in a PRU? Working in a PRU is different from mainstream school — and honestly, that’s what makes it so rewarding. Here’s what a typical day feels like: ?? Calm but purposeful start Staff greet pupils individually the moment they arrive. Relationships matter hugely, so mornings often involve quick check-ins: “How are you doing today?” “What do you need?” This helps set a positive tone. ?? Small classes, big support Groups are usually around 4–8 pupils, which means you get to know each student’s personality, triggers, strengths, and goals. Lessons are shorter and more flexible to support emotional regulation. ?? Lots of behaviour coaching Learning Mentors spend much of the day helping students manage emotions, resolve conflict, stay regulated, and re-engage with activities. No two days look the same — sometimes you’re supporting in class, sometimes stepping aside with a pupil who needs space. ?? Targeted interventions This might include: • anger-management sessions • social skills work • mentoring conversations • tailored academic support You often see rapid progress because the environment is personalised. ?? Teamwork every minute Staff support each other constantly.
