Job Title: Learning Support Assistant Autism Experience
Location: Tottenham, London
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work closely with a primary-aged student with Autism S in our inclusive and vibrant primary school in Tottenham.
The student is non-verbal and exhibits challenging behaviour, requiring a calm, patient, and empathetic professional who can provide consistent support tailored to their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 support for a student with ASD, ensuring their emotional and academic needs are met.
Implement strategies to support the student during challenging behaviour episodes, fostering a calm and safe environment.
Facilitate sensory breaks and adapt activities to meet the student’s sensory processing needs.
Use non-verbal communication strategies to build rapport and support learning.
Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCO, and external professionals to implement and review the student’s support plan.
Support the student’s engagement in classroom activities and transitions throughout the school day.
Promote positive behaviour and social interactions in line with the school’s values and behaviour policies.
Requirements:
Proven experience working with children with ASD and challenging behaviour in an educational or care setting.
Knowledge of sensory processing needs and strategies for supporting sensory regulation.
Familiarity with non-verbal communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, or AAC tools).
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to remain patient, empathetic, and adaptable.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or special educational needs (desirable).
