About the School:
We are a purpose-built school in the heart of Christchurch, Hampshire, dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our excellent facilities are designed to cater to the needs of students with a range of challenges, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), trauma, and anxiety.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and patient Learning Support Assistant to join our committed team. You will be instrumental in facilitating the academic and social development of our students, helping them overcome barriers to learning, and enabling them to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with various learning requirements, including SEMH, ADHD, trauma, and anxiety.
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans in collaboration with teachers to meet the specific needs of each student.
- Use a variety of innovative and interactive teaching methods to engage and motivate students.
- Monitor and record students' progress, working closely with the teacher to identify any additional needs and adjust learning plans accordingly.
- Foster a positive, nurturing, and safe learning environment that encourages students to develop self-esteem and social skills.
- Liaise with teachers, parents, and other professionals to discuss progress and any concerns, whilst maintaining student confidentiality.
- Attend and contribute to relevant meetings and professional development sessions.
- Assist with the adaptation of materials and resources to make them accessible for students with SEND.
- Attend to the physical, emotional, and behavioral needs of students, ensuring a high level of supervision and support.
- Help to develop the independence of students within the school and wider community.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or similar role, preferably with SEND students.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEMH, ADHD, trauma, and anxiety.
- A compassionate, patient, and approachable demeanor with the ability to build trust and rapport with students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to a variety of situations and student needs.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and willingness to undergo any necessary training.
- Enhanced DBS check or the willingness to obtain one.
