We are looking for an exceptional Pastoral HLTA to join our Alternative Provision in Wythenshawe, Manchester. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced pastoral professional, behaviour mentor, youth worker, HLTA or inclusion specialist who is committed to helping pupils overcome barriers, build resilience and achieve success.
Working within a therapeutic and trauma-informed environment, you will play a key role in leading behaviour support, promoting emotional wellbeing and creating a culture where every pupil feels safe, understood and valued.

The Role
As our Pastoral HLTA, you will be a highly visible and influential member of the school community, leading behaviour support and SEMH interventions while helping to shape a positive, nurturing and emotionally safe learning environment.
You will work closely with pupils, families, teaching staff, therapists and external agencies to ensure pupils receive the support they need to succeed both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Behaviour Support
• Support the implementation and development of whole-school behaviour systems rooted in trauma-informed, relational and therapeutic practice.
• Lead and coordinate behaviour interventions for pupils with additional SEMH needs.
• Coach and support colleagues to ensure behaviour strategies are applied consistently across the provision.
• Contribute to the review and development of behaviour support plans, risk assessments and personalised intervention strategies.
• Support the promotion of a positive school culture built on respect, relationships and high expectations.
• Deliver staff guidance and contribute to training around behaviour, emotional regulation and SEMH support.
Student Support and Intervention
• Provide targeted support for pupils presenting with complex SEMH, behavioural and emotional needs.
• Deliver impactful one-to-one mentoring and small group interventions focused on:
o Emotional regulation
o Resilience
o Self-esteem
o Problem-solving
o Positive behaviour choices
o Social skills
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and positive outcomes.
• Support pupils during periods of heightened anxiety, distress or crisis using therapeutic and de-escalation approaches.
• Lead restorative conversations and reintegration support following incidents to help pupils successfully return to learning.
• Act as a positive role model, encouraging reflection, accountability and personal growth.
Working with Families and Professionals
• Develop strong partnerships with parents and carers to improve consistency between home and school.
• Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, therapists and senior leaders to provide coordinated support.
• Work alongside external agencies including CAMHS, social care, youth services and educational psychologists.
• Contribute to EHCP reviews, safeguarding meetings and multi-agency planning discussions.
• Ensure key information regarding pupil wellbeing and support needs is effectively communicated across the staff team.
Monitoring and Reporting
• Maintain accurate behaviour records, intervention logs, support plans and risk assessments.
• Monitor behaviour trends and identify pupils requiring additional support.
• Analyse data to evaluate intervention impact and inform future planning.
• Produce reports and updates for senior leaders and relevant stakeholders.
• Contribute to whole-school improvement through evidence-based practice and reflective evaluation.
Contributing to School Culture
• Champion the school's nurturing, therapeutic and relational ethos.
• Promote inclusion, emotional safety and positive relationships throughout the provision.
• Support assemblies, enrichment activities, school events and pastoral initiatives.
• Model professionalism, empathy and consistency in all interactions.
• Help maintain a culture where pupils and staff feel respected, valued and supported.
Desirable Experience and Qualifications
• Level 4 qualification or above in Education, Youth Work, Psychology, Counselling, Social Care or a related field
• Experience within Alternative Provision, PRUs, Special Schools or SEMH settings
• Accredited training such as:
o Team Teach
o PRICE
o MAPA
o Thrive
o Nurture
o Restorative Approaches
• Leadership, mentoring or supervisory experience
• Experience working alongside external agencies and multidisciplinary teams
