A welcoming primary school in Haringey is seeking a caring and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism. This full-time role is available for an immediate start and offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a child’s development and school experience.
About the Role:
You will support a primary-aged pupil who is non-verbal and communicates using PECS, while beginning to develop early spoken language. The pupil enjoys creative activities such as drawing and painting and benefits from calm, consistent guidance to remain engaged and safe throughout the school day. Personal care is not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide consistent 1:1 support during lessons, transitions, and daily activities
Use PECS and visual strategies to support communication and understanding
Encourage early language development through modelling and structured support
Deliver creative and engaging activities to support learning and regulation
Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe learning environment
Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals
Monitor progress and share feedback with staff and parents where appropriate
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience supporting children with ASD in a school or similar setting
Knowledge of PECS or willingness to learn communication strategies
A calm, patient, and consistent approach
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Creativity and the ability to build a positive, trusting relationship
