Job Title: Secondary Teaching Assistant
We are currently seeking a kind, experienced Secondary Teaching Assistant for supply work supporting a high-need young person in a school setting.
This role is ideal for someone who is support-first led, patient, and confident working with students who need additional help during unstructured times.
Location: M18
Days: Monday, ongoing
Start Date: to be decided
About the role:
You will be providing 1:1 support to a young person who:
• Has a diagnosis of Autism and is on the ADHD pathway
• Is generally settled in lessons with occasional low-level behaviours
• Requires close support and monitoring during unstructured times
• Struggles with communication and social interaction and may need help expressing emotions
• Benefits from regular check-ins and emotional reassurance
There is no aggression or self-harm history, however the student is vulnerable and needs a calm, consistent adult who understands Autism and communication differences.
We are looking for someone who:
• Has proven experience working with Autistic young people
• Is calm, patient and emotionally aware
• Understands that communication difficulties are part of Autism
• Can manage low-level behaviours in a positive and supportive way
• Is happy to provide brief written feedback on support offered
This role would suit you if:
• You’ve supported high-need SEND students before
• You are confident in unstructured settings (breaks, transitions, lunch times)
• You lead with empathy and structure
• You want to make a real difference through consistent, meaningful support
