Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Walton, Surrey Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 08:00?–?15:30 Salary: Paid to scale Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex emotional and behavioural needs in a dynamic primary setting. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, therapists, and external agencies to create a safe, inclusive learning environment that promotes wellbeing and academic progress. Key Responsibilities • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH difficulties, implementing agreed-upon strategies and interventions. • Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated lessons, adapting resources to meet individual needs. • Monitor and record pupil behaviour, progress, and attendance; contribute to IEPs and risk assessments. • Foster positive relationships, modelling coping skills and resilience techniques. • Liaise with parents, senior staff, and external professionals to ensure coordinated care. • Support the implementation of school-wide SEMH policies and safeguarding procedures. • Participate in regular CPD and team meetings, sharing insights and best practices. Essential Qualifications & Experience • Level 3 or higher Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). • Proven experience supporting children with SEMH or SEND needs. • Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed practice, and behaviour management. • Excellent communication, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. • DBS clearance (or eligibility to obtain).
