About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and challenging behaviour at our primary school in Islington. This is a vital role, providing 1:1 support to help the student access the curriculum, develop communication skills, and manage behaviour in a positive and structured way.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting pupils with DLD and/or challenging behaviour and be confident using strategies to promote engagement, communication, and social development.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 support to the Year 2 pupil, tailoring strategies to their DLD and behavioural needs.
Support the implementation of speech, language, and communication strategies.
Assist with behaviour management, using positive and consistent approaches.
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement the pupil’s individual learning plan.
Promote independence, confidence, and social skills in the classroom.
Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teaching team.
Essential Requirements
Previous experience working with pupils with DLD, speech and language needs, or SEND.
Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour.
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
Excellent communication and team-working skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable
Knowledge of PECS, AAC, or other communication tools.
Experience working in a primary school SEND setting.
Relevant SEND or TA qualifications.
This role is starting ASAP and is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference to a child’s learning and development.
