SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism (Primary) – Stratford Location: Stratford, East London Start Date: September 2025 Salary: £89+ per day (depending on experience) Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time Only Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm Employer: Axcis Education – The UK’s leading SEND recruitment agency The Role: Axcis Education is currently recruiting for a SEND Teaching Assistant to work in a mainstream primary school in Stratford. You will be supporting a Year 4 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) on a 1:1 basis throughout the school day. This is a full-time, long-term role starting in September, with potential for a permanent contract for the right candidate. The pupil you will be working with is verbal and bright, but benefits from consistent support with transitions, focus, and social interactions. They require a structured and predictable routine, along with strategies that support their communication and emotional regulation. Key Responsibilities: Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with autism in a mainstream classroom Supporting academic engagement and scaffolding tasks set by the class teacher Managing emotional regulation and providing clear boundaries and routine Using visual schedules, now/next boards, and reward systems Supporting with social integration and communication development Liaising with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals Keeping detailed daily records and contributing to EHCP reviews About the School: A welcoming and inclusive 2-form entry primary school in the heart of Stratford Strong leadership team with a focus on inclusion and SEN development Access to in-house and external training opportunities Close to public transport links (Overground, DLR, Central and Jubilee lines) Highly experienced SENCO and pastoral team The Ideal Candidate Will: Have experience working with children with autism (in a school, care, or youth setting) Be calm, patient, and able to support children with sensory and emotional needs Have good communication and interpersonal skills Be confident implementing strategies such as PECS, visual timetables, or social stories (training can be provided) Be adaptable and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team Hold a valid DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one) Have a passion for inclusive education and helping all children thrive Desirable (but not essential): Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification Experience with other SEND needs (e.g. ADHD, speech and language delay) Makaton or TEACCH knowledge Why Join Axcis Education?
