Salary: £89+ per day (depending on experience)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (Term Time Only)

Job Summary:
Axcis Education is seeking a compassionate and reliable SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Key Stage 2 pupil with epilepsy at a mainstream primary school in Plaistow, Newham. This is a long-term, full-time position starting in September 2025, ideal for someone with medical awareness and a nurturing approach to support learning and safety.
The school is inclusive and supportive, with a dedicated SEND team and excellent local reputation.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with epilepsy, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and full participation in classroom activities
Be vigilant and responsive to any signs of seizures; follow the student’s Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) at all times
Work closely with the school nurse and SENCO to follow medical protocols and manage risk
Offer academic support in class, differentiating work where needed and keeping the pupil engaged
Assist with emotional regulation and provide a calm, reassuring presence during transitions or after incidents
Maintain accurate records of medical incidents and report concerns promptly
Work collaboratively with the class teacher and parents to ensure joined-up support
Support social interaction, confidence, and positive routines in the classroom and playground

The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have experience supporting children with medical needs, ideally epilepsy or seizure management
Be trained in or familiar with epilepsy care plans and emergency response procedures (training can be arranged)
Have prior experience working in a primary school or SEND setting
Be calm, attentive, and proactive – able to respond quickly and appropriately to health-related situations
Be able to support academic progress, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
Have good communication skills and be able to liaise with staff, parents, and healthcare professionals
Be flexible and reliable, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
Hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
Desirable (but not essential):
Epilepsy or First Aid Training (can be provided by Axcis or the school)
Background in healthcare, nursing, or care
Understanding of SEN strategies such as visual timetables, Now/Next boards, or sensory tools
TA qualification (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning)
