The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), complex learning difficulties, communication needs, and sensory processing differences. This is a hands-on and rewarding role where you will play a key part in helping children access learning, develop essential life skills, and achieve their individual goals. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting children with SEND and committed to making a positive impact on their educational journey. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with Autism and complex SEND needs. Support children within small classes of up to 10 pupils. Help create an engaging, structured, and positive learning environment. Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and achieving their individual learning targets. Use PECS, Makaton, and other communication strategies to promote engagement and learning. Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Support pupils with personal care where required. Encourage the development of social, emotional, communication, and independence skills. Manage and support behaviour positively and consistently. Work closely with teachers, therapists, and senior leaders to support pupil progress. Monitor and record pupil engagement, achievements, and development. Contribute positively to the school's inclusive and collaborative culture. Requirements The successful candidate will have: Previous experience supporting children with Autism and a range of SEND needs. A strong understanding of complex needs and behaviour support strategies. Experience using PECS and familiarity with Makaton. Confidence in supporting personal care when required. A proactive, hands-on, and adaptable approach. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. A genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential. The ability to learn quickly and respond positively to training and feedback. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one). Full-time availability from September 2026.
