Job Title: SEND teaching assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary School
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Contract: Agency, term time only
Pay: Daily ay from £93-£96 per day
Axcis Education is recruiting for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming and well-established primary school. This is an excellent opportunity to join a large school with outstanding leadership, excellent support, and a strong commitment to inclusive education.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly autistic children who may display physically challenging behaviours, within a specialist or special educational needs setting. You will be confident, patient, resilient, and passionate about helping children achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND.
• Support autistic children with complex needs and physically challenging behaviours.
• Assist pupils with their literacy and numeracy development.
• Help children remain engaged, focused, and motivated throughout the school day.
• Work closely with teachers, the SENDCo, and other professionals to implement individual support plans.
• Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence in a safe and nurturing environment.
Essential Requirements:
• Previous experience working as a teaching assistant supporting children with SEND.
• Experience working with autistic children who present physically challenging behaviours.
• Experience within a special school, specialist provision, or similar SEND environment.
• A calm, proactive, and compassionate approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• An Enhanced Child and Adult DBS Certificate registered on the DBS Update Service (essential).
• The right to work in the UK.
