Contract: Full Time (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM)
Salary Range: £89 - £95 per day
About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Needs Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a Year 2 student with autism within an OFSTED rated 'Good' school in Oldham, Lancashire. This full-time role requires dedication and a proactive approach to ensure the student’s wellbeing and academic progression.
Key Responsibilities:
•Deliver 1:1 support tailored to the student's individual learning and communication needs, particularly those with autism.
• Utilize visual picture cards and other alternative communication methods to engage and interact with a non-verbal student effectively.
• Provide occasional basic personal care assistance, as the student may have accidents due to communication challenges.
• Implement behaviour management strategies to handle situations calmly and safely when the student is in crisis, which may include dealing with physical behaviours.
•Monitor the student's progress and work closely with teachers and parents to facilitate supportive strategies both in and out of the classroom.
•Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and attend meetings as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
• A current Enhanced DBS on the update service.
• Previous experience supporting students with additional needs, particularly autism, in a 1:1 capacity.
• Proven ability to use visual aids and picture cards for communication with non-verbal individuals.
• Understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with communication difficulties and experience in managing these effectively.
• Experience dealing with behavioural challenges, including physical behaviours in a professional and patient manner.
• Previous experience within a UK-based educational setting is essential.
