Job Title: Student Support Worker
Are you looking for meaningful, hands-on work supporting young people as a Student Support Worker / Teaching Assistant? This full-time role is based at a well-known further education campus in Radstock, within a specialist provision in the Wellow building, supporting students aged 16–18 with autism and learning disabilities.
This local college is known for its inclusive culture, strong community links and practical, skills-based courses that help students prepare for adulthood and employment. Learners can access hands-on subjects such as animal care, mechanics and construction, making learning active, purposeful and engaging. The most recent Ofsted inspection praised the positive relationships between staff and learners, a strong safeguarding culture, and the effective support provided for students with additional needs. The specialist provision offers a calm, structured environment where young people are supported to build confidence, independence and real-world skills.
The role
• Student Support Worker supporting learners aged 16–18
• Focus on autism and learning disabilities
• Specialist provision (Wellow building)
• Full-time: 8:30am–4:30pm, 4.5 days per week
• £13.70 per hour
• Starts ASAP, with the role becoming permanent after a 16-week settling-in period
You’ll support students during lessons, workshops and practical sessions, helping them engage with learning, manage transitions and develop communication, confidence and independence.
Who this role is for
This role is ideal for local people, graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, teaching assistants or support workers who enjoy working with young people in practical, active settings. Experience is welcome but not essential.
What matters most is your personality and motivation. If you’re patient, encouraging, reliable and able to build positive relationships, you’ll be a great fit. Skills gained through coaching, youth work or hands-on roles translate especially well when supporting neurodiverse learners in practical subjects.
This is rewarding, purposeful work in a setting where learning feels real, active and meaningful.
