JOB TITLE / ROLE:
TA for Secondary Autism Base: Newport - Newport - Role: SEND TA Jobs
Axcis are pleased to be working with a mainstream school in Newport who are looking to recruit an experienced teaching assistant to work in an autism base with KS4 students who are going to be taking their GCSE'S this year. The students are all verbal and high functioning, routine is important to them and any changes in routine need to be explained to them with enough notice.
The school has a very friendly atmosphere and a supportive environment, and is well liked by all staff we have sent to them in the past. Situated in central Newport the school has been described as having a positive and inclusive working ethos and has excellent links to public transport. There are ample parking facilities and the school grounds are beautiful.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with either children or adults with autism. Maybe you've been a support worker for adults but you want to transition into working with children. You will be a role model, mentor and daily support to the children you will be working with and will need to be able to establish a good working relationship with them. Resilience is an essential trait as some of the children have challenging behaviour. You must have a calm nature and ability to de-escalate situations. The successful candidate will be creative, flexible and patient as well as being compassionate and empathetic.

You will need to come in for a one hour registration meeting, after that everything can be done over the phone and via email. You will need a valid DBS on the update service and a minimum of two references, preferably one from a job or volunteering role where you've worked with children or with people with special needs.
This is a temporary position.
