Axcis Education is currently supporting a special school for profoundly autistic learners within the Yardley area of Birmingham. The school provides an excellent learning environment designed specifically to meet the needs of its learners which fall within the KS2 and KS3 age brackets of 7 years to 14 years.
This is a small school with a strong sense of team, comprising of 6 small classes of learners; it is of utmost importance that collaboration with colleagues and strong communication is held as a priority to ensure that the learners develop in all areas of life.
The learners attending this school have very individual and profound needs such as non/pre-verbal communication, sensory and emotional dysregulation, personal care needs and distressing/challenging behaviour and therefore the school does require a teaching asisstant who is well experienced in supporting the above needs.
Job Details
• Whole class support but working on a 1:1 or small group basis
• Working closely with profoundly autistic learners with more specific needs such as non/pre-verbal communication, sensory and emotional dysregulation, personal care needs and distressing/challenging behaviour
• Working independently and as part of a team
• Full time hours (8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday)
• Ongoing basis for the remainder of 2024/25 academic year and to return in September 2025
• Start date - ASAP
Requirements:
• Experience in working on a one to one and/or small group basis – Essential
• Experience of working with pupils who are profoundly autistic– Essential
• Experience of supporting needs such as non/pre-verbal communication, sensory and emotional dysregulation and personal care – Essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 good references – Essential
