Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) team, specialising in supporting children with Autism and challenging behaviours. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the EYFS curriculum and have previous experience working with children in this stage within the UK. The candidate will work closely with a child who has high-level needs, is non-verbal, requires constant supervision, and some personal care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one support to a child with Autism and complex behavioural needs, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Develop and maintain structured routines to create a supportive and predictable environment for the child.
- Utilize communication tools such as picture clues to enhance communication and understanding, catering to the child's non-verbal needs.
- Assist with the personal care needs of the child as required, maintaining dignity and respect.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other professionals to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behavioural strategies.
- Encourage the child's independence and social integration by promoting positive interactions with peers.
- Continuously observe and record the child's progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities relevant to the role and the needs of the child.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working with children in an EYFS setting within the UK.
- Experience in supporting children with Autism and managing challenging behaviours.
- Capability to provide personal care with sensitivity and respect.
- A good understanding of the EYFS curriculum and the ability to apply its principles effectively.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with children, colleagues, and parents.
- Patience, resilience, and a positive approach to working with children with high-level needs.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undertake one).
