**About the Role**:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive team at a friendly primary school in Wellington, Somerset. The successful candidate will provide essential support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, enabling them to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of young people facing educational barriers due to their additional needs.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provide tailored support to students with SEMH challenges, both in the classroom and in smaller group settings or one-to-one.
- Assist the classroom teacher in delivering educational material and activities adapted to the needs of SEND students.
- Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction among students, utilizing de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies as necessary.
- Collaborate with the SEND Coordinator, teachers, and the multi-disciplinary team to implement students' Individual Education Plans.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to student reviews and assessments.
- Prepare learning resources and adjust the learning environment to ensure it is stimulating and supportive for students with SEMH needs.
- Foster a safe, caring, and inclusive classroom atmosphere that respects diversity and promotes dignity.
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings and training sessions, as required, to maintain a high level of competency in SEN educational strategies and practices.
**Job Requirements**:
- Prior experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant or a relevant role supporting children or young people with SEMH needs.
- Understanding of SEMH challenges and knowledge of strategies to support students with these needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience, with a commitment to supporting children's emotional well-being and academic growth.
- The ability to work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of each student.
- Willingness to undergo professional training and development to enhance knowledge and skills in SEMH and SEND practices.
- Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one.
