**Position**: SEND Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) **Location**: Wimborne, Dorset **About the Position**: A highly regarded educational institution in Wimborne, Dorset, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. The successful candidate will work with students presenting Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and complex learning needs across both primary and secondary phases. This role is an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of young individuals in an environment that values personal growth and educational excellence. **Key Responsibilities**: - Provide tailored support to students with ASC and complex learning needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and engage effectively in learning activities. - Assist in the planning and delivery of individual education plans in close collaboration with the lead teacher and other educational professionals. - Monitor and record student progress, adapting support strategies as needed to meet their evolving needs. - Facilitate a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment where each child feels valued and encouraged to achieve their personal best. - Foster positive relationships with students, staff, and parents, acting as a trusted point of contact for the latter about their child's school experience. - Employ a variety of teaching aids and interventions suitable for the students’ individual needs to enhance learning outcomes. - Support with daily routines, personal care, and behavior management as required, always with a view to promoting independence. - Participate in training and development opportunities to maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in SEND education. **Qualifications and Skills**: - Prior experience in a similar role within an SEND setting is strongly preferred. - A compassionate and patient approach to working with children with special educational needs. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, staff, and parents. - A proactive attitude with the ability to adapt to changing situations and the needs of individual students. - NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification, or willingness to work towards obtaining this. - A clear understanding of the challenges and rewards involved in working with students with ASC and complex learning needs. - An enhanced DBS check will be required for this position. **Working Conditions**: The teaching assistant will be expected to work in small class settings to ensure a focused and personalized educational experience for each student.
