A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in L35 is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work with a child in Year 3 with Autism. Starting this September, this is a full-time, long-term opportunity to make a lasting impact on a child’s academic and emotional development.
About the Role
You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored support throughout the school day. The child requires consistent, structured, and nurturing support to help them navigate the school environment, access learning, and develop their communication and emotional regulation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 in-class support to a child with Autism, following individual support strategies
Assist with learning tasks, emotional regulation, and transitions between activities
Use visual aids, routines, and other strategies to support engagement and independence
Promote social interaction and communication through modelling and encouragement
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and external professionals to review progress and adapt support
What We’re Looking For
Experience supporting children with Autism or additional needs (in school or care settings)
A patient, calm, and understanding approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust and consistency
A DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (we can assist with this)
A genuine passion for helping children succeed in an inclusive mainstream setting
