SEND Teaching Assistant – 1:1 SEMH Support – Year 1 – Barking & Dagenham £95–£105 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Primary | Immediate / Flexible Start Axcis are working closely with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barking & Dagenham who are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 boy with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs). This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who understands the importance of building trust, consistency and emotional security within a classroom setting. The pupil requires a calm, patient and emotionally intelligent adult who can provide structure, positive behaviour strategies and engagement support throughout the school day. The school has strong leadership, clear behaviour policies and a supportive SENCO who works collaboratively with support staff. The site is easily accessible via public transport and offers staff parking. In this role, you will: • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with SEMH needs • Build a strong, trusting relationship to encourage engagement and emotional regulation • Use de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour techniques • Support learning within the classroom and during transitions • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and parents to ensure consistency • Monitor progress and contribute towards EHCP targets What we’re looking for: • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or challenging behaviour • Calm, patient and resilient approach • Strong relationship-building skills • Confidence supporting primary-aged children • Full-time availability and commitment to long-term work This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about behaviour support and early intervention.
