SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism & Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) Location: Castle Bar Park, Ealing, London Start Date: September 2026 Trial Days: Available ASAP Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term Working Hours: Monday to Friday | School Hours Salary: Competitive, Dependent on Experience About the School We are working with a fantastic SEND school in Castle Bar Park, Ealing, that is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. Trial days are available immediately for suitable candidates looking to secure a long-term role ahead of the new academic year. Staff work collaboratively to create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where pupils are supported both academically and socially throughout their educational journey. The Role This rewarding position involves supporting primary-aged pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and additional complex needs. You will be working within a small class of up to seven pupils alongside a class teacher and two to three experienced SEND Teaching Assistants, ensuring every child receives the individual support they need to access learning, develop key life skills, and achieve their personal goals. The ideal candidate will be patient, proactive, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs, helping them build confidence, independence, and a love of learning. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with Autism, SLD, and additional SEND needs. Support children in accessing engaging and personalised learning activities. Use communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton, and other visual strategies where appropriate. Assist pupils with personal care requirements when required. Support the delivery of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and learning targets. Help create a structured, safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment. Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff. Contribute to planning, review meetings, and discussions around pupil development. Encourage pupils' independence, communication, confidence, and social skills. Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils. Requirements The successful candidate will have: Previous experience supporting children with Autism, SLD, SEND, or within an Early Years setting. A caring, patient, and proactive approach to supporting children with additional needs. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods (desirable). A willingness to support pupils with personal care where required. A genuine passion for helping children succeed and progress in their education. The ability to commit to a full-time, long-term role from September 2026. Relevant safeguarding checks and references.
