Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Pay: £92.63 per day Job Type: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 4:00pm) Start Date: Immediate Axcis Education is working in partnership with a welcoming mainstream primary school in Smethwick to recruit a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional communication needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Classroom Assistant, or Support Worker looking to make a meaningful difference within a primary school setting. The role involves working closely with non-verbal pupils, helping them access learning, develop communication skills, and engage positively within the classroom environment. The successful candidate will be confident, patient, and able to build strong relationships with children. You will need to be comfortable using a range of communication strategies and adapting your approach to meet individual pupil needs. Key Responsibilities • Support pupils with communication needs within a mainstream primary school. • Work closely with non-verbal children, encouraging engagement and participation in lessons. • Use alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, visual aids, and other communication strategies. • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils. • Support pupils with emotional regulation and social development. • Promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour. • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, and external professionals. • Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. Requirements • Previous experience working with children or young people in an education, childcare, care, or support setting. • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, autism, or communication needs is desirable. • Confidence using, or willingness to learn, alternative communication techniques. • A resilient and proactive approach with strong behaviour management skills. • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and professional in challenging situations. • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one. • Full-time availability, Monday to Friday.
