Job Title: Youth Mental Health Support Worker
Youth Mental Health Support Worker
Are you someone who genuinely cares about helping young people feel understood, calm and supported? We’re looking for a warm, patient person to support 16–18-year-old students with autism and learning disabilities in a specialist provision based in the centre of Bath.
About the role
This is a full-time position, Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am–4:00 pm. It begins in January and becomes permanent after a 16-week settling-in period. Pay is £13.70 per hour.
A supportive and inclusive learning environment
The college is well known locally for its friendly and inclusive atmosphere, with strong support systems for learners with additional needs. Its most recent Ofsted report praised the quality of provision for students with high needs, highlighting the positive relationships between staff and learners and the respectful, welcoming culture across the campus. The college environment combines busy, vibrant spaces with specialist areas designed to help vulnerable learners feel safe and able to thrive.
Why your support matters
Students with autism can experience heightened anxiety, especially in a lively college setting where noise, movement and change can feel overwhelming. Exam periods, timetable shifts and social situations can also create pressure. When anxiety builds, young people may find it hard to communicate their worries or frustrations verbally — and this can sometimes be expressed through their behaviour.
Your role is to help them feel grounded, listened to and reassured. With patience, consistency and a calm approach, you’ll make a real difference to their confidence, regulation and wellbeing.
Who we’re looking for
We’re not focused on long lists of past experience. Instead, we want someone who:
• Is kind, dependable and motivated by helping others
• Can stay calm under pressure and support students through moments of anxiety
• Values inclusion, respect and positive relationships
• May come from a background such as youth work, care, sports coaching, graduate study or general support work
What you’ll do
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support
• Help young people navigate busy spaces and stressful moments
• Encourage independence, emotional regulation and positive communication
• Contribute to a nurturing, respectful college culture
If you want meaningful work that makes a daily difference, apply today to be considered for this role.
