Youth Mentor - Be the Positive Role Model They Need
Are you ready for a new challenge this September? Do you thrive in high-pressure situations, think on your feet, and have a strong sense of purpose? If so, your experience could be exactly what these young people need.
We're recruiting Youth Mentors to support one of Bristol’s leading Alternative Provision settings—a school designed for students who’ve struggled in mainstream education. Whether you're after full-time, part-time, or ad-hoc work, there’s a place for you here.

Why This School?
This isn’t a standard classroom. It’s a dynamic, trauma-informed setting where building trust comes before learning. Staff work hard to create an environment that centres on:
• Engagement – Helping students feel safe and motivated
• Enjoyment – Making learning accessible and meaningful
• Relationships – Forming strong bonds that unlock potential
You’ll be part of a supportive, passionate team that helps young people re-engage with their education and build brighter futures.

Could This Be You?
We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, especially those with experience of working with young people within dynamic environments. These fields often develop the key qualities we look for:
• Resilience – You can stay calm in challenging situations
• Emotional intelligence – You understand trauma and human behaviour
• Authority and empathy – You can set boundaries and build trust
• Quick thinking – You can adapt on the spot and respond to changing needs
You might come a background in:
• Youth work or residential care
• Sport or coaching
• Military roles
• Behaviour support or mentoring roles
• Police work or the youth justice system

What You’ll Do:
Every day will be different, but you’ll typically:
• Work 1:1 or in small groups with students aged 11–16
• Help pupils manage emotions, access learning, and build self-belief
• Use trauma-informed strategies to de-escalate behaviour
• Celebrate progress—no matter how small
These students need someone who sees their potential, not just their problems. That’s where you come in.

• At least 3 months' experience working with children or young people (formal or informal)
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport quickly
• A calm, compassionate and consistent approach to behaviour
