Job Title: ASD Teaching Assistant Location: Walton-On-Thames, Surrey Employment Type: Full-time (Monday-Friday) Hours: 08:00?–?15:30 Salary: Paid to scale Role Overview We are seeking a dedicated Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Teaching Assistant to support learners with ASD in a mainstream primary/secondary setting. Working closely with the class teacher and specialist staff, you will help create a structured, inclusive environment that promotes academic progress, social development, and independence. Key Responsibilities • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with ASD, implementing individualised learning plans. • Assist with classroom management, ensuring clear routines, visual schedules, and sensory accommodations. • Monitor student progress, record observations, and communicate findings to teachers and parents. • Facilitate social-skills activities and peer-interaction strategies. • Support the preparation and delivery of lesson materials, adapting resources as needed. • Promote positive behaviour through evidence-based interventions and de-escalation techniques. • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, contributing insights on student needs and progress. • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies at all times. Essential Qualifications & Experience • Level 2/3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent. • Experience working with children and young people with ASD in an educational setting. • Strong understanding of ASD characteristics, communication strategies, and sensory integration. • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with staff, families, and external agencies. • Patience, reliability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Desirable • Additional training in SEN, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), or Speech & Language support. • First Aid/Paediatric CPR certification.
