Location: Sutton, South London Hours: 8:30am - 4:00pm, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only) Start Date: September 2026 Pay: From £92.63 per day (PAYE) Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term Axcis Education is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and compassionate Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Sutton. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to begin or develop a career in education, SEND, psychology, youth work, healthcare, or support work. No formal Teaching Assistant qualification is required, but previous experience supporting children or young people with additional needs is highly desirable. The role involves supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them access learning, develop communication skills, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially. Key Responsibilities • Provide classroom, small group, and 1:1 support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation. • Encourage engagement in learning activities and classroom routines. • Help pupils develop independence, confidence, and life skills. • Use positive behaviour management and autism-friendly strategies to support learning. • Support sensory needs and assist pupils during transitions throughout the school day. • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and SEND professionals to deliver individualised support. • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. The Ideal Candidate • Experience working with children or young people with autism, SEND, ADHD, or additional learning needs. • A genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs. • Patience, empathy, and resilience. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • The ability to remain calm and positive when supporting challenging behaviours. • A proactive and adaptable approach to learning and development. • Experience in education, childcare, care work, youth work, sports coaching, healthcare, or support work is highly desirable.
