Job Title: Autism Teaching Assistant
Autism Resource Base Teaching Assistant – Secondary – Barking & Dagenham

Axcis are working with a vibrant secondary school in Barking & Dagenham with an on-site Autism Resource Base, seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support pupils with ASD. The provision provides small-group and 1:1 support for students who thrive in structured, predictable learning environments. The school’s leadership team has been praised for creating an inclusive, caring culture that helps every pupil succeed.
In this role, you will be:
• Supporting autistic pupils in both the resource base and mainstream lessons.
• Using structured teaching strategies (TEACCH, visual timetables, task boards) to promote focus and independence.
• Encouraging social communication and helping students regulate emotions during transitions.
• Collaborating with the SENDCo, class teachers, and therapists to implement consistent support plans.
What we’re looking for:
• Experience supporting students with autism in a school or specialist provision.
• Calm, consistent behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Confidence using visual and structured learning approaches.
