Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
A specialist school in Skelmersdale are seeking individuals who have experience supporting students in their learning. If you are passionate about supporting young people, and students who require further development in their learning, then this could be role for you. The school caters for primary aged children with SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs). There are other needs within the school, such as autism, ADHD and learning difficulties. There is some challenging behaviour, so previous experience with de-escalation would be required. The school is smaller than average with around 50 pupils on role. The class sizes are small with only 6 -12 pupils in each class. As a Teaching Assistant specialising in SEMH, you will be expected to be a reliable, resilient and supportive presence in the classroom. Previous experience with behaviour management would be required for this role. Training in de-escalation techniques, such as Team Teach, would be desired but is not essential. The role may involve working 1-1 with certain pupils based upon the relationships you form once in the school. This would be a full time position, working Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm, on an ongoing basis. This role is due to begin in September 2024 and there would be a high chance of a permanent position for the right applicant. The ideal candidate will: • Have a strong understanding of safeguarding requirements in schools • Have high expectations of students behaviour and clear strategies for working with students with challenging behaviour. • Have experience of working with children with SEND and SEMH needs. Requirements: • Experience working with children (ideally in a school setting) or vulnerable adults with SEND or SEMH needs • An understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques • Strong work ethic and full-time availability.
