Job Title: Classroom Assistant - SEN Focus
Are you a caring, patient and enthusiastic Classroom Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity to support children within a primary school?
Do you have a genuine interest in Special Educational Needs (SEN) and a passion for helping children build confidence, develop independence and overcome barriers to learning?
Axcis Education is recruiting for a dedicated Classroom Assistant with an SEN focus to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Wool, Dorset.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to develop their experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs. You will work alongside the class teacher and wider school team to help create a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
As a Classroom Assistant with an SEN focus, you will:
• Provide classroom support to pupils with a range of SEN and additional needs
• Offer 1:1 and small-group support where required
• Help pupils access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities
• Support children with their literacy, numeracy, communication and social development
• Work alongside the class teacher to deliver engaging learning activities
• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours
• Support children with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
• Help adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs
• Provide encouragement and reassurance to pupils who may require additional support
• Assist with classroom activities, preparation and general classroom organisation
• Help create a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment
• Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider school team to ensure pupils receive consistent support
We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school, childcare, SEN or care setting
• Has a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs
• Is patient, compassionate, reliable and adaptable
• Can build positive and trusting relationships with children
• Is confident providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Has good communication skills and works well as part of a team
• Has a positive and consistent approach to supporting behaviour and emotional needs
• Is willing to learn and develop their understanding of SEN
• Has a strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
• Experience supporting pupils with Autism / Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
• Experience supporting children with communication or learning difficulties
• Previous experience as a Classroom Assistant, Teaching Assistant, SEN TA, Learning Support Assistant or similar
• A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or a related area

Location: Wool, Dorset
Hours: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Pay Rate: £14.25–£14.95 per hour
