Job Title: Learning Mentor (Outreach) - Torbay
Job Role: Learning Mentor – Alternative Provision (Torbay) Location: Outreach Torbay/Teignbridge Hours: 9:00 – 16:00 Pay: £95 - £100 per day (based on experience) Permanent Salary (after 6-week trial): £20,256 – £24,000 per year Start Date: ASAP. Axcis Education is excited to be working with an alternative provision based on the outskirts of Torbay, who are looking for a dedicated Learning Mentor to work with students aged 8 to 16 who are significantly below their age-related expectations in literacy and numeracy and who have complex needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a bespoke, one-to-one intervention setting. You’ll be helping students who may face barriers to learning, providing tailored support to improve their academic performance and emotional well-being. The role requires working with vulnerable young people in a supportive and engaging environment to build their confidence, boost their literacy and numeracy skills, and help them succeed. Key Responsibilities: • Delivering tailored one-to-one interventions to students working below their age-related expectations. • Supporting students in both literacy and numeracy to boost confidence and academic progress. • Developing strong, positive relationships with students to foster a supportive learning environment. • Assisting with off-site learning activities and providing additional pastoral support where required. • Working closely with teachers and other staff to track student progress and adapt interventions as necessary. We are looking for someone with experience working with vulnerable young people or adults, whether in an education setting or similar role. Previous experience in delivering interventions or teaching would be an advantage but is not essential. Key skills and attributes we are looking for include: • Experience working with young people or vulnerable individuals (e.g., in schools, youth work, social care). • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting learners with a variety of needs. • A willingness to adapt and work flexibly to meet individual student needs. • Ability to drive and travel to off-site learning locations.
