Job Title: Learning Mentor
Location: Burnham Pay: £92.63 per day Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday We are seeking a resilient, confident and compassionate Learning Mentor to join a Pupil Referral Unit in Burnham, supporting secondary-aged pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who present with challenging behaviour and often have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The role involves working closely with students on both a one-to-one and small group basis, helping them to re-engage with education, develop positive relationships and make better life choices. You will act as a strong, consistent role model, supporting pupils to manage their behaviour, build trust and begin to form a more positive direction for their future. You will need to be calm under pressure, able to set clear boundaries and confident in de-escalating challenging situations. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to relate to young people from a range of backgrounds and experiences. An interest in sport or physical activity would be highly desirable, as this can be a valuable tool for engagement and relationship-building within the setting. We welcome applicants with experience in relevant roles such as SEMH Teaching Assistant, youth worker, prison officer, social worker, sports coach or similar positions where behaviour management and mentoring have been key aspects of the role. A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people and helping them succeed is essential. This is a full-time, term-time position offering consistent hours and the chance to be part of a dedicated and supportive team.
