Learning Support Assistant – Key Stage 1 (ASC & Speech and Language Needs) Location: Bournemouth, Dorset Start Date: September 2025 Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only Salary: Competitive, based on experience Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? A nurturing and inclusive primary school in Bournemouth is looking to appoint a dedicated LSA to provide 1:1 support for a Key Stage 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and speech and language difficulties. This is a rewarding and hands-on role for someone who is calm, committed, and skilled in helping young learners access the curriculum and thrive in a mainstream classroom setting. The Role: Provide 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with ASC and communication challenges, ensuring they are fully included in classroom learning and routines Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging, accessible lessons and provide wider class support as required Lead targeted literacy and numeracy interventions for individuals and small groups Work in close collaboration with the SENCo, senior leadership, and external professionals to implement and review tailored education and communication strategies Keep accurate records, monitor pupil progress, and provide regular updates to staff and parents Help foster a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages independence and social development Take part in staff meetings, training, and CPD opportunities to contribute to the school’s continued development The Ideal Candidate: Experience working in a primary school setting, ideally with Key Stage 1 pupils A strong understanding of ASC and speech/language needs, and how these can affect learning and behaviour Confident in using visual aids, routines, and communication strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton – desirable) A calm, nurturing, and proactive approach to supporting young children Skilled in adapting learning activities and managing transitions effectively Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with experience delivering structured interventions A team player who is confident communicating with staff, families, and professionals What the School Offers: A supportive leadership team who prioritise staff well-being and development A culture of collaboration and inclusion, where every child and adult is valued Regular CPD and training opportunities to build your expertise and confidence A welcoming and forward-thinking school community A competitive salary in line with experience and qualifications If you’re a compassionate, skilled, and experienced Learning Support Assistant looking for a fulfilling new role this September, we’d love to hear from you.
