Job Title: Learning Support - Autism Base Location: Oldham, Lancashire Job Type: Full-Time Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm Start Date: ASAP Axcis Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a vibrant and dynamic team in Oldham, Lancashire. The successful candidate will provide invaluable support to students aged 11-16 with high-need autism in a specialist Autism Base unit. This rewarding role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of students with complex needs. Key Responsibilities: - Deliver one-to-one or small group support to students with high-need autism, focusing on their personal, social, and academic development. - Employ various communication methods to engage with non-verbal students effectively. - Help students regulate their emotions and behavior, employing de-escalation techniques when necessary. - Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. - Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement individual education and behavioral plans. - Observe, record and report on students' progress and any incidents, as required. - Be proactive in managing challenging behaviors, while maintaining a calm and patient demeanor. - Attend training and professional development sessions as required. Essential Requirements: - Previous experience working with students with high-need autism is essential. - Capable of working constructively with non-verbal students and those who may become physically challenging. - Classroom or child residential experience is preferred. - A resilient individual who remains calm and patient, even in demanding situations. - Empathetic approach towards the needs of students with SEN. - A valid DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one. - An understanding of safeguarding practices in an educational setting. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Desirable Attributes: - A relevant teaching assistant or childcare qualification. - Experience in using PECS, Makaton, or BSL.
