Are you an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant or SEND Specialist TA seeking a temp-to-perm opportunity starting in March?
An outstanding specialist SEND school in Poole, Dorset is looking for a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team on a temporary-to-permanent basis. This role offers a clear pathway to a permanent position for the right candidate.
You will be working in a therapeutic, relationship-led setting supporting pupils with SEMH, ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition), and ADHD. With small class sizes of 8–10 pupils, the school provides a calm, structured environment where staff can make a real impact.
This position is ideal for:
Experienced SEMH Teaching Assistants
SEND Support Workers or Learning Support Assistants seeking a long-term role
Graduates in Psychology, Education, Youth Work, or Criminology looking to progress into a permanent school position
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH, ASC, and ADHD
Support emotional regulation and implement positive behaviour strategies
Build consistent, trusting relationships with pupils
Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals
Adapt learning resources to meet individual SEND needs
Monitor progress and contribute to personalised support plans
Candidate Requirements:
Experience supporting SEMH and/or SEND pupils in a school or specialist setting
Calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach to behaviour
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to consistency and long-term pupil outcomes
Teaching Assistant qualification or SEMH/behaviour training (desirable)
