Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Hampton, Greater London
Type: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00?am – 3:30?pm
Salary: Paid to scale
Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEM-HE (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to support our inclusive primary classroom in Hampton. Working closely with the class teacher and specialist staff, you will help create a safe, structured environment that promotes emotional well-being and academic progress for pupils with SEMH needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils experiencing social, emotional, or mental health challenges.
• Implement agreed-upon behaviour-management strategies and personalized learning plans.
• Assist the teacher with lesson preparation, resource adaptation, and classroom organisation.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting concerns to the SENCO and pastoral team.
• Foster positive relationships with students, families, and external agencies.
• Contribute to a calm, respectful atmosphere by modelling appropriate coping strategies.
Essential Requirements
• GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics; relevant Level 2/3 qualifications (e.g., CACHE, NVQ) strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting children with SEMH or special educational needs in a school setting.
• Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to maintain clear boundaries.
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the ability to follow the school’s safeguarding policy.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
• Training in CBT, mindfulness, or trauma-informed practice.
• First-Aid or Safeguarding certifications.
