Helping pupils identify triggers and develop strategies for emotional regulation
Supporting children through periods of dysregulation or challenging behaviour
Using positive reinforcement, clear boundaries and consistent routines
Helping pupils re-engage with learning after difficult moments
Supporting English, Maths and wider classroom activities
Following individual EHCP targets and behaviour support plans
Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff
Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
About You
We would particularly like to hear from candidates who:
Have previous experience as a SEMH TA, SEND TA, LSA, Behaviour Support Assistant or similar
Have worked with children who display challenging behaviour or emotional regulation difficulties
Have previous school-based SEND experience – strongly preferred
Can remain calm and professional when behaviour escalates
Understand the importance of de-escalation, consistency and predictable routines
Can build trust while maintaining clear professional boundaries
Are proactive, resilient and comfortable using initiative
Hold a CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification – desirable but not essential
Can commit to a full-time, long-term position
The School & Location
The role will be based within a primary school in Barking & Dagenham, with opportunities accessible from Barking, Dagenham, Chadwell Heath, Ilford, Romford and surrounding East London areas.
This would be particularly well suited to someone who enjoys working with pupils who may need more consistency, patience and individual attention before they are able to engage successfully in the classroom.
