SEND Teacher (PMLD) – KS2 Location: Sutton Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm Contract: Full-time / Long-term (with potential for permanent) Start Date: ASAP (or September start – depending on preference) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teacher to join a welcoming, family-feel specialist school in Sutton supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) within a KS2 cohort. We welcome applications from qualified teachers holding QTS (preferred) or a PGCE equivalent, with strong experience at Level 7 teaching standard and a proven background in SEND education. You will be responsible for delivering highly personalised learning experiences, supporting communication, engagement, and development across academic, social, and emotional domains. Candidate Requirements • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) preferred or PGCE equivalent • Demonstrable Level 7 teaching experience • Strong background in SEND, ideally within PMLD or complex needs settings • Experience working within specialist or SEND provisions • Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills • A calm, resilient, and nurturing approach Expectations & Approach (Therapeutic, Non-Handling) This setting adopts a therapeutic approach to working with students, prioritising understanding, emotional safety, and positive engagement over physical intervention. Staff are expected to adhere to the following principles: • No shouting: Staff must not raise their voice in a harsh or derogatory manner towards students. • Soft communication: Calm, respectful, and consistent communication is essential at all times. • Clear boundaries: Expectations should be communicated clearly, consistently, and fairly. • Positive reinforcement: Focus on encouraging and recognising positive behaviour rather than emphasising negative behaviour. • Active engagement: Staff are expected to be proactive in the classroom by moving around the space, supporting learning, and building meaningful relationships with students and colleagues. Physical Intervention Staff must not grab, hold, or restrain students by any part of the body, including arms or wrists. Any physical contact must only occur in line with authorised safeguarding and safety protocols.
