Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant SEMH
Experienced SEND Teaching Assistant – ASD & SEMH Support
Finchley | Full-Time | September Start
Some children don't need someone to simply sit beside them—they need someone who understands them.
We're looking for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Finchley, supporting a number of pupils with Autism, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs on a full-time basis from September.
This isn't a role where every day follows the same routine. Some students need support to regulate their emotions before they can begin learning. Others need consistency, patience and someone who can recognise the small wins that make a huge difference over time.
The successful candidate will become an important part of the school's SEND team, providing tailored support both inside and outside the classroom. You'll work closely with teachers and SEN staff to help pupils access learning, build confidence and develop positive relationships throughout the school day.
We're looking for someone who:
Has previous experience supporting children or young people with ASD and/or SEMH.
Remains calm, patient and resilient when faced with challenging situations.
Can build trusting relationships and establish clear, consistent boundaries.
Understands that behaviour is communication and responds with empathy and professionalism.
Is confident adapting their approach to meet individual needs.
Works well as part of a collaborative SEND team.
The role will involve:
Providing 1:1 and small group support.
Helping pupils regulate emotions and remain engaged in learning.
Supporting personalised learning strategies and EHCP targets.
Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interactions.
Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to ensure every child receives the support they need.
In return, the school offers:
A supportive leadership team who genuinely value their support staff.
Ongoing training and professional development.
A collaborative and inclusive working environment.
The opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives of young people every single day.
If you're an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant who understands the rewards and challenges of supporting pupils with additional needs, we'd love to hear from you.
