Axcis is working to recruit a teaching assistant to join a Secondary School in Croydon. We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated teaching assistant to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a secondary school setting. In this role you will work closely with the classroom teacher, SENCO, and other support staff to help students with ASD engage meaningfully in lessons, improve their learning outcomes, and develop social and emotional skills. The role requires an understanding of autism, the ability to adapt teaching methods, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide individual or small group support to students with ASD, adapting teaching methods and resources to meet their specific learning needs and styles.
• Assist the classroom teacher in managing the classroom environment to ensure that students with ASD are included and supported during lessons.
• Help implement strategies to support positive behaviour, using methods such as visual aids, structured routines, and sensory tools to help students regulate emotions and behaviour.
• Adapt learning materials to ensure accessibility for students with ASD, ensuring they have the necessary tools to participate fully in lessons.
• Assist students in developing appropriate social interactions, helping them build relationships with peers and staff in a school setting.
• Work alongside teachers, SENCO, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to the student's education and well-being.
• Encourage students to develop self-management and independent learning skills, helping them build confidence and resilience.
• Assist students during less structured times, such as lunchtime, break time, or transitions between lessons, to ensure a smooth and supportive experience.
Requirements
• Experience working with secondary school aged students
• Experience working with ASD students
• Passionate about supporting students with additional needs.
• A proactive and collaborative approach to working with colleagues and other professionals.
• Ability to remain adaptable and positive in the face of challenges.
