SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Okehampton
Salary: £85 - £95 per day
Start Date: January 2025
About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialized school in Okehampton. The school provides education and support for pupils with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) who primarily present with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils also have additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), ADHD, attachment difficulties, and Speech, Language, and Communication Needs.
With small class sizes of no more than eight pupils, the school is committed to fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment. The team includes experienced teaching staff, pastoral support, and specialist professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each pupil’s education and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide individualized support to pupils in small groups or one-to-one settings.
• Assist in delivering personalized learning plans tailored to pupils’ unique needs.
• Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development through trauma-informed practices.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
• Promote inclusion and encourage the development of life and social skills.
What We’re Looking For:
• A genuine passion for supporting children with SEMH needs.
• Experience in an educational or care setting is an advantage but not essential.
• Knowledge or willingness to learn about trauma-informed approaches and SEND practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, resilience, and a proactive attitude.
